Our People

 

We’re a diverse, lively and dedicated team in Human Resource Development. Many of the team have worked in and around organisational and academic development for a long time – whether here at the University or having honed their talents elsewhere. Others are recent recruits to the development field, bringing an array of skills and expertise from other professions and careers. We all have one thing in common - a commitment to providing the support and resources that individuals require to help achieve the organisation’s vision. Read more about the teams in HRD below.  

Leadership Team

The HRD division is headed up by Tracey Hulme – Associate Director of Leadership and Learning. Tracey joined the University four years ago, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and expertise from roles in the Police and other Higher Education institutions. Tracey has overall responsibility for all organisational development available at the University and, in particular, has a specialist focus on enhancing excellence within leadership in the organisation.


Brian Murphy
Role
– Head, Academic Development
Key responsibilities - overall responsibility for setting the strategic direction of academic development available at the University to support an effective and high-quality learning and teaching environment. Oversight and management responsibility for the successful delivery and implementation of the operational objectives of the academic development team including PgCAP, Research Supervisor development, and the roll out and embedment of the Academic Roles manual. Specialist focus on the design and implementation of professional standards in the higher education workforce.

Product Development & Service Support

The Product Development and Service Support team are responsible for the design and development of new products and resources, and the upkeep and enhancement of existing tools, in relation to OD at the University. The team manage the online learning portal and have responsibility for building the development schedule following the annual PDR cycle. The team also produce the monthly report, outlining how the division is performing against our SLAs which can be found in ‘Our Performance’.


Rhona Cleary
Role
– Learning & Development Coordinator
Key responsibilities -lead on HRD website activity and updates. Currently project managing the review of HRD’s communications and engagement strategy. Shared responsibility with L&D Coordinators for managing and improving the content of development toolkits, utilising evaluation feedback to further enhance development resources, and ensuring development records are accurate and up to date.

Rebecca Coles
Role
– Learning & Development Manager (currently on maternity leave)
Key responsibilities - oversee the suite of learning and development products at the University; ensure the resources on offer are up to date, effective and best-practise; and, overall management responsibility of the Product Development team.

Angela Cross
Role
– Learning & Development Team Leader
Key responsibilities -lead on implementation of Transformation Phase 2 development programme. Responsible for the supervision of Learning & Development team’s workloads and performance.

Anne Jackson
Role
– Learning & Development Coordinator
Key responsibilities - lead on performance reporting for HRD activity. Currently leading on programme administration for the PgCAP and the development of a robust framework for skills and behaviour development in future. Shared responsibility with L&D Coordinators for managing and improving the content of development toolkits, utilising evaluation feedback to further enhance development and  resources, and ensuring development records are accurate and up to date.

Professional & Organisational Development

Our Professional and Organisational Development Consultants are each associated with a link College and professional service area(s) and work with those Colleges and professional service areas to understand and identify what the development priorities in those areas are, and what development resources may be required. We also have a number of qualified Coaches in the team who provide 1:1 coaching where this has been agreed with line managers.

Key responsibilities - Professional and Organisational development contact for the College of Arts and Social Sciences and the College of Business and Law and in the professional service areas of Finance, Governance Services and University Legal. Sourcing and delivering Learning and Development activities, facilitation of workshops and provision of management coaching as required. Specific interests in communication and customer service skills.

Academic & Research Development

Our Academic and Research Development team have a breadth of responsibilities and work closely with academic and research colleagues in particular to support and facilitate the improvement of learning and teaching at the University. The team also includes the Digital Skills function whose primary responsibility is ensuring all colleagues are aware of, and able to use, the variety of innovative technologies that are available to support individuals in their role.

Digital Skills Team

The team work with ALL staff in becoming more effective and efficient in using the University’s ICT and business systems. They also work with academic staff in using ICT and learning technologies, with the aim of enhancing the Student Experience, in and out of the classroom.
